The Crucible

When sex energy is in a passive, dormant state, it is stored around the coccyx. When it’s deliberately, or accidentally aroused, it starts to arise, initially to the region around the perineum and the genitals. This “rising of the Kundalini” is experienced as a type of electrical charge of an extremely high voltage. This is the “fire” that surges through the nervous system when a person is in a state of high sexual arousal, and YOU are the crucible!

“I don’t know what came over me . . .  it was as though a force was charging through my body . . . I didn’t want to do it . . . I knew it was wrong . . . I don’t even enjoy watching . . . it’s as though I am being forced to do it by a surge of feelings inside me . . . it’s like some sort of inner fire . . .”

I’ve heard these and other such desperate pleas from many men who have lost control of their lives through compulsive porn or infidelity. They may even find themselves driving to an elicit sexual encounter while saying to themselves “I shouldn’t be doing this” or “Why am I doing this?” Or they may be masturbating for the second, third or fourth time in a single day while watching porn, telling themselves “I don’t want to be doing this!”

What is this “fire” that surges through the nervous system when the thought of watching porn or having a destructive sexual encounter arises?

It is the energy of sex.

Energy

You see, everything in the Universe, including the human body, is composed of energy. Even the objects we see around us and consider as solid, including the chair and table you may be sitting at, are composed of energy. Behind everything that we see, feel or touch is energy. The universe is a teaming, swirling bundle of energy composed of gasses, molecules, atoms, electrons, protons and fine, subtle energies.

Most people think that the physical body animates and sustains itself. It does not. The body is a ‘bundle’ of energetic motion; an amazing, mysterious structure drawn out of forces from the cosmos, meticulously constructed through a process of emanation and evolution over vast periods of time. Intrinsically connected with the field of atomic and sub-atomic energy exist fields of fine, subtle energies. These are the fields of life energies, or life force. This is a scientific fact that has been known for many thousands of years. Life energy can be experienced in a variety of ways, and one is through sexuality. This force is known in Sanskrit, the language of Ancient India, as the Kundalini. In Western esotericism it is referred to as Fohat. In Oriental terminology, life force is called ch’i . In India and Tibet, it is called prana. It is this life-force that animates our bodies. If you have ever been present when somebody dies, you will observe that as soon as the life-force departs, the physical body becomes completely inert and returns to a state of complete materiality; what was alive and mobile, suddenly becomes as stone. This is because the energy, or life-force, is no longer in the physical body.

What we call “life-force” and what we know as “sex energy” are both the same. Our physical body was created through sex, we arrived in the world through a vagina, and it is through sex that some of us create the physical bodies of our own children. Consciously connecting with life energies transforms everything, including the process of sexual arousal. The circulatory system, the nervous system, the endocrinal network; all respond to the degree of life-energy, or the lack of it, that a man or woman can consciously harness. It is a secret key of the miracle of the male erection and female arousal.

Sexual Energy

There are a number of very significant places along the body where the nervous system has particular intensity of energy, feeling and purpose. These bodily places are known technically as plexi, or plexuses. A plexus is a nerve centre; a type of interconnecting junction for the workings of three channels of nerves. The plexuses are connected to the spine; located in and around the areas of the medulla, cervix, dorsal, lumbar, sacral and coccyx. The areas along the front of the body most affected by these plexuses are the brain, the larynx, the heart, the stomach, genitals and anus.

When the sex energy is in a passive, dormant state, it is stored around the coccyx. In a person who is trained to contain and circulate the Kundalini around the whole body, the experience can be extremely positive: he or she will benefit with good health, vitality, creativity and longevity. But in an untrained person, the uncontrolled rising of the Kundalini throughout the internal organism may have extraordinarily negative effects.  The sudden, unexpected, and prolonged rise of sex energy can produce dramatic effects in the body. In an untrained man or woman this energy can “burn” through their senses, over-ride their judgement, cloud their memory and cause mental discombobulation and bewilderment; in some extreme cases even other physical health problems. The following are some extracts from Gopi Krishna’s classic book “Kundalini”:

“ . . . according to the authorities on Yoga, the activity of the brain and the nervous system depends on a subtle element known as prana, which pervades each cell of every tissue and fluid in the organism, much in the same way that electricity pervades each atom of a battery. . . .

With the awakening of the Kundalini (sex energy), the nervous system suffers a radical alteration, as a result of which other and more extensive group of nerves are stirred into activity, leading to the transmission of an enormously enhanced supply of a more concentrated form of pranic radiation into the brain . . . the effects of a sudden increase in flow of blood to the brain causing effects such as faintness, complete insensibility, excitement, irritability, or in extreme cases, delirium, paralysis, death . . .

The awakening may be gradual or sudden, varying in intensity and effect according to development, constitution, and temperament of different individuals.”

Feminine Energy

Sex energy, Kundalini, Prana, Fohat, Life-Force, or whatever other appellation may be given to the “fire” that is aroused from its slumber, is energetically feminine. It is the force, or energy, that not only produces a physical body when united with the masculine principle but produces all forms; everything that exists is brought into manifestation through the feminine principle. Now we tend to think of being feminine as gentle, soft, caring, nurturing, beautiful, sensual; and She can be so. But how commonly is it acknowledged that the Feminine can also be dark, dangerous, scary, destructive, angry and even murderous?

Think about this: the moon is universally thought of in connection with the principle of the feminine. Luna is a feminine name, of Latin origin, meaning moon. In ancient Roman mythology, Luna was the moon goddess, also referred to as Diana. But is the moon constant, benign, placid and passive? Not really. The phases of the moon throughout its orbit of the Earth bring about significant changes, notably those that affect the tides and our weather but also other environmental conditions on our planet. The moon is beautiful to behold, can enhance romance and intimate relationships, and therefore contributes to our states of happiness and fulfilment. But the moon also has a dark side which we never see directly from Earth because it faces away from us; its speed of orbiting is affected by Earth’s gravity so that it’s always out of our sight.

What is it like on the dark side of the moon? What dangers await the intrepid traveller on that unexplored surface? Can we experience the rush of raw, primal, feminine energy without losing our balance? Can we remain conscious in the face of such dark and unexpected force? Of course, we don’t need to travel to the moon to answer that question; we only need to be in an intimate relationship with a woman! Or be a woman who is in an intimate relationship with a man! When the two opposite energy polarities combine, the dark side of both masculine and feminine comes rushing out of hiding.

“ . . . a woman is capable of being a witch, a sex slave, an amazon, a goddess of light, a nurturing mother, a demon, a luscious lover, a wise teacher, a wild animal, and everything in between. As a general rule, she will keep returning to the energy that you cannot match . . . A man must be able to meet with woman with consciousness equivalent to her energy . . . The feminine destructress must be met by the masculine destroyer.” (The Way of the Superior Man: David Deida)

Are you capable of controlling the type and intensity of ‘electrical’ energy in your body when it is aroused through pornography or a particular type of sex? Is it possible to affect the sympathetic nervous system so that it has the right ‘voltage’ of electricity for the appropriate situation? How can you work with the sex energy so that you experience a balance between the ‘white-hot’ type of electricity that leads to loss of control and the warm energy that allows arousal to develop comfortably and naturally: for the genitals to become enlarged or opened sufficiently without ‘boiling over’ or ‘burning out’?
